Ok so sleep is currently eluding me lol. I'm sitting here while Boyz in the Hood is playing just thinking what if again. And of course, thinking of this movie I instantly pair it with Menace II Society, and more recently Waist Deep (which can't really be grouped with this but ok.) which kind of ventures deeper into another side of my "what if" thoughts. But anyway, I'm watching this movie and I'm to the part where Cuba gets pulled over with Morris Chestnut in the car, and the black officer shoves a gun in his face. I remember when I first saw this, and my initial reaction was, "Wait, he's a black guy! Shouldn't he be...idk...less harsh? Cuba ain't do nothin!!" But unfortunately, that's the way the movie goes. And then there's the part where Cuba lashes out from that moment and such. I can't really relate because I've never been in this kind of situation before.....but dang? Do things really need to escalate to that point of displaying your ignorance?
And then there's the end of the movie :( so saddd :(((((
But that's how life sometimes ends, right? No happy endings in the hood, or so I've been taught. Success stories seem too far and in between. But it's always nice to uplift the black man considering his history. So....let's uplift ourselves. Go to college, get an education, set future goals for yourselves, get married, have kids, and live with no regrets.
I'd like to conclude with this quote:
Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.
-Stephen A. Brennan
Let's all work towards whatever our goals are, big or small, conquerable or percieved to be impossible by some hater's standards.
-Ron :)
